Senior UI/UX Designer

Why work at

Working at is Different.

Team members have the opportunity to work on a variety of companies, industries and topics, rather than remaining focused on a single company and function.  All employees participate in the ideation and vetting processes as we collectively determine what companies to build next.  And if one of the companies we build is particularly interesting to a team member, they always have the option to spin out with that entity.

We are committed to building careers, not jobs.  That means that developers can learn the capital funding process, and data scientists can learn B2B marketing.  We want to help develop well-rounded business leaders – some of whom will use these skills within a technical domain, and others of whom will become company founders and general managers.

Beyond competitive cash compensation, equity participation is across all the companies on which a team member works, effectively creating a portfolio of equity for each team member rather than the binary risk associated with an individual startup.

We look for problem solvers with a history of demonstrated excellence.  But being great at your function isn’t enough.  In a typical week, you might write and test code, conceptualize a pricing strategy, and model AWS cost structures to figure out how to make a SaaS offer profitable.  As a result, our interview process is both tech skill and case-study based.

We are seeking a UX Designer / Developer who can both imagine and build.  You’ll be taking huge amounts of data and analytic workflows and creating an intuitive experience for users.  You will:

Contribute to all facets of design to make a great product
Make interfaces that are beautiful and elegant
Ensure information is structured in a way that makes the most sense
Create interactions that are enjoyable
Develop user interaction and interface deliverables, including sketches, wireframes, visual designs
Write front-end code.  At a minimum, quick prototyping of features in HTML / CSS.
Iterate with team members through the entire design and development process, with a focus on “ship and improve,” rather than “make it perfect the first time”
Be a champion for users’ needs from requirements gathering through implementation

A successful candidate will combine left-brain and right-brain thinking.  He or she will lean one way or the other, but should be able to move fluidly between them.

More tangibly:

  • Experience in designing usable interfaces for web apps (1-3 years)
  • Strong visual design sense (sample portfolio required)
  • Passion for developing world-class user experiences
  • Good problem solving skills, attention to detail and critical thinking abilities
  • Experience wire-framing and creating visual comps (and the tools for doing this)
  • Experience with HTML / CSS.  Ideally, will have developed usable code using HTML / CSS / JavaScript, and have experience with major JavaScript libraries (e.g. YUI, jQuery)
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback from non-designers
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Energetic, self-starter with strong communication skills

Degree in HCI, Interaction Design, or related field preferred
